Looks like Feb 26 could be the decision day as to whether to get rid of MA, as it is finally dawning on shareholders that hiring a continuity candidate, who was BL's right hand man, was not such a smart idea. MA is apparently keen to abandon many of BL's plans, but is it too late to save him? Some investors believe the company instead needs a turnaround specialist, somebody in the mould of Tufan Erginbilgic.

If you ever want some fun reading. Go into the Macondo disclosures. Everyone I worked with in the uk thought that the GOM folks were g-n ho risk everything for a result bunch. Then I worked in gom post macondo and they all thought they were the greatest asset to BP. The US businesses ki-led bp.

the thing that ki-led this company, slowly but surely, isn't the looney strategy, its the GoM drillers spilling half of Macondo all over the gulf.

Gordon will leave at 1Q results. He will be replaced by Nigel Hearn from chevron who will then replace MA once he’s got the lay of the land.

Shouldn’t that read “mounting realisation that MA is not the person to turn the company around”

Just another CEO in the thrall of McKinsey. Time to clear out the current board and cut out McKinsey cancer. Get some leaders that have the courage and conviction to come up with some original ideas of their own that the workforce (and shareholders) can get behind

Each of the CEO candidates were given a budget and time to prepare a case study for the strategy they would implement if they were the successful candidate. The Loon chose McKinsey (Chairman Helge, who earlier destroyed other companies, is a McKinsey alumni) to develop his business case. The Loon’s Green Woke strategy was well known to the Board when he was appointed CEO.

The thing about this is that the Board who appointed him must have known of his planned 'strategy', but have taken no responsibility for the resulting mess. The Board remain in place. The LT, who were BL appointees, have taken no responsibility. The people who are going to suffer are those at the 'sharp end' of the business i.e. those who keep the business going. Surely, it's long overdue for GC to be sent packing and take her 'strategy' with her.

A while ago I read that those who aspired to be the chief executive at BP needed to be associated with Upstream (E&P, probably a dated term, but I retired in 2016 when TE was CEO of Downstream). The BoD was never interested in anyone from Downstream. When BL was brought in and assured everyone that he could make BP the wokest among its peers, I laughed out of cynicism and grieved for those who remained with BP. I knew it meant utter failure. But, BP being the organization that was created under JB, was doomed. Look at where this company is today. From the days when JB acquired all of those companies to run with the big dogs, those big dogs are now trampling on BP. This company is a mere fraction in value to what it was a few years ago.

bp employee morale is already extremely low after having two horrible CEOs. TE would not be a good choice - he does not make employees proud of the work they do. He leads by intimidation, not inspiration.

Why would the likes of Tufan want to take on the mess that BP is in when he was overlooked for BL? HL and others bought the Looney green/woke approach and are now toiling to backpedal. BL was a style over substance character, otherwise why would he have hired a lightweight like GC? IIRC some of the Board favored TE, but we ended up with Mr Photo Opportunity, a guy more interested in updating his social media posts on a daily basis.
