ExxonMobil and Chevron Merger 2025

Do we have a group of executives working at the Chevron office in downtown Houston to merge Chevron and ExxonMobil in 2025/2026? Chevron is about to become a significant partner with ExxonMobil in Guyana.

ExxonMobil's acquisition of Pioneer was all about bulking up in the Permian Basin, Chevron's deal for Hess will take it in another direction. In Hess, Chevron will acquire a position in the world-class Stabroek block offshore Guyana. It will become Exxon's partner in the region as its rival operates the block, which is one of its four core focus areas.

Here’s the scenario: Saudis help Trump by increasing oil production and tanking oil price. Industry earnings drop precipitously. This gives the go ahead for the great US oil industry to survive and become much bigger and greater by a merger of XOM and CVX. Trump justice department gives a green light almost immediately. Not much CVX in EU or UK. Whatever the two companies have in countries that might balk is sacrificial anyway and sold in case of a serious challenge.
Huge efficiencies across upstream. Little overlap on the downstream. No big OilCo owns service stations any more so that consumer hurdle that existed in the past is gone.

Bim, bam, bo-m.

There is not a government in the world that would allow an Exxon-Chevron merger to occur.
