Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Just another attempt to get people to quit

That's all this whole RTO thing is about. Severance is expensive. Paying people to leave is not as good as getting them to walk out on their own. Other companies have done the same thing with the same goal and had great results because people would rather leave than RTO. I guess it's our turn now.

Attrition is only half of it - they can't stomach the idea of us little people NOT being under their thumb. Control freak elitists. They want to walk the cubicle farms and see the farm animals scurry. Super messed up worldview.

If you're a master of state employment law in literally all 50 states, what are you doing at Dell?

I'll stick to what we have clear precedent for in my area, along with what my attorney friends have confirmed, thanks.

They don't have to offer severance just cos they force RTO , that's nonsense

In my state, if Dell is forcing relocation or otherwise would be suddenly imposing a multiple hour each way commute, Dell must offer severance and layoff.

I know most states don't have this kind of provision but you never know, worth looking into.

'just don't comply'

Sure. But now when you don't come in they can write you up for performance and PIP you. So when you are let go for performance they don't give you a severance. It's considered being FIRED - not laid off.

That would have made sense before cutting 40% of the workforce. Now it's just Michael and Jeff exerting power be cause their feeling are hurt that no one likes them any more.
