Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I'm not giving a notice

Two people I know quit and gave their notice, only to be told on the spot they were done. It's good to know this ahead of time. Since I'm close to accepting an offer, I can plan my exit accordingly and skip the hassle of a long notice. I'll give them just a simple "I'm not coming back." That'll make it all the sweeter.

Honestly you're stupid for doing this. I'm all for sticking it to the big man, but if you give a 2wks notice and they can you on the spot they HAVE to pay you out your notice period, and as thats considered a termination you have a leg to stand on to pursue unemployment.

What's better to stick it to them, not giving a notice or gouging them out of 2wks of pay+unemployment insurance premiums?

Take all your PTO (Vacation and Personal) either way, leave nothing $$$

When I found another job, I planned to take my vacation. I used up my 8 days or so remaining and gave my notice when back. Then basically did time pass for the next 2 weeks.

Might as well keep both jobs for a few months!

Turnabout is fair play. Dell can expect to harvest what they dished out.

If Dell is paying out the notice period, that's one thing. But, if they are just sh-t canning people that give notice you might be able to file for unemployment (and should, just because big companies HATE that).

Take vacation days before you leave.

Note that it is Dell policy to not give any response for referrals and recommendations requests.
