My manager has decided some time ago that we should hire an extra person because after all the cuts, I could not manage all of the work put on my shoulders (2-3 peoples' work for 1 person). Well we hired her from the GCC in India and now I am training her and this has got me thinking, am I training my replacement? For those of you who had to train your replacements, were you told that that person was your replacement right away, or was it like this, where you were told: we need to hire an extra person, you train them, and then you got laid off later?
TIA
PS: I would prefer advice from someone who has had to train their replacement, so if you have not, skip this thread. Thanks!

My team lead brought in a Habib and all of the TL a$$ kissers lined up without question to train her while I refused. Was quite the feeding frenzy watching these clueless colleagues turning their souls in just to win a few brownie points from management.
In the end they were all replaced too, and still haven’t found work months later while I’ve done just fine. Flush, and hope to never hear from any of them ever again.
Stop with these d-mb questions and find a new job already. You know your job isn’t safe. Trust your gut.
i was told i would be laid off after training my team’s replacements. i had a unique experience though.
Yes this happened to several people on my team, they brought people in like they were extra help for us. Only to learn later they were going to be replacements.
Offer to adjust and change your hours to parallel the new TCS trainee. Find a new day job, collect two checks, offload all to newbie, await severance. They sc--w you. You sc--w them.
Yes you at some point will get laid off after a few months of training the individual from India. That happened to me where the new hires joined and I ended training them but very slowly. I ended up getting the boot a couple of weeks thereafter.
If you haven't done so polish up that resume and start applying for jobs. It would be good to get head start in the job hunting even if you get rejected from some positions it will be good practice.
Doe the Pope wear a hat?
Why do people keep asking if they will be laid off? YES YOU WILL. Every single one of you if you aren’t in a GCC you will be laid off. Aside from that the ship is clearly sinking. Stick around on your own accord long enough and you might lose your job with no severance!
This is generally how it works. They will add a new person to your team, generally reporting to you, and then slowly over time, they will gain knowledge. (I have seen this done over and over in the tech org). I have survived thus far but my peers have been laid off one by one.
Everyone in the tech org WILL be laid off. Its only a matter of time. There are layoffs every 2 weeks.
