My manager hasn’t spoken to me about performance. Any chance I should be worried? Are PIPs the new form of layoffs outside of the sales team

The new review process does appear to be designed to eliminate people. HR even said, the were expecting 10% to not meet expectations. I had my review process and lets just say, it was not good. I was actually told that all I did was my job. That because I didn't go above and beyond on my job, that was considered not performing. My bet is layoffs are coming in February since the earnings report is on the 27th. They will know a few weeks before they release their earnings if they will beat wall street expectations or not. Since they have not beat wall street the last two quarters, my bet is that it is expected they won't this time, thus layoffs are coming.
My manager made a comment that those mid-year reviews were supposed to happen by end of next week. Also, I think this only applies to certain parts of the org that are piloting the new process.
Mandatory performance reviews are new to NetApp. If you haven't had them in the past don't worry about it now. The ones moving forward will be important and it seems like they're going to use them for layoffs.
The bottom 10% will be cut twice per year.
I don't know if Sales is the same as other departments, but with Thrive you should be having quarterly conversations with your manager that then get uploaded into the tool. If that's not happening, I wouldn't take that as a sign other than your manager is not doing his or her part.
I can't tell if you are on a PIP (or why you would bring that up), but if so that is even more reason that you should be meeting with your manager.
Rather than asking for advice here, why not ask your manager directly? Good riddance!
