"Yes moving everything to India is the ONLY way to save Qualcomm
Sadly many people didn’t realize how wise CA is for his India strategy"

not sure why those 'super smart' folks don't create their own company
and tell Q to pound sand

Layoff those who don't have patents

Is answer to @100+1jhkgpr5a that's because there is no other innovation is going on in the company ,l, and most of the brains have left or been laid off! so getting some indian monkeys to hack their way through is the only option. Gotta be naive not to see that.

the thread is going off topic. Are there going to be more layoffs? Jan is almost over. So I think we are out of woods until March?

India teams now execute way better than US teams, which are also just made of the same Indians but are just lazier and have learned to whine like Americans. Stop living in LA la land. Moving jobs to India is the right to do.

@rj+1jhkgpr5a I think the earlier poster called you a sore loser as you are bitter at others creating patents, earning monetary rewards and unable to create your own. IMHO, none of the prolific patent creators would lurk around in a website like this. So no nerve hit.

'Q is not laying off RnD engineers who are generating patents and ideas'

what has Q produced with all these patents
i think you are confusing a useful new idea with a piece of bureaucratic paperwork
'patents' like the US 'financial' system have been gamed enormously
people file patents for all sorts of reasons
forget the fact they are violated completely in places like india
does Q by the way have a presence in india

@qm+1jhkgpr5a Perhaps you should consider a theater acting job instead of real engineering. They will also give you a "decent" monetary reward, if that's all that matters to you. And I'm not sure where "sore loser" comes from. It appears I struck a nerve.

@q2+1jhkgpr5a don't be such a sore loser! If it was that trivial for you, then you would be a very rich man considering Q provides a decent monetary reward for every patent.

I hope MST gets a nice clean up in this cycle, assuming it happens. It's long overdue!

"not laying off engineers who are generating patents" ... once a senior co-worker remarked that in the US patent system "you can patent the kitchen sink", and that the European system was much more discriminating. I don't know if the US system has since improved (?), but you do still see quite trivial patent applications.

And as for ideas - I have seen new ideas turn into near-catastrophes due to inexperience.

I suspect the higher-ups are often valuing theater over experience.

Q is not laying off RnD engineers who are generating patents and ideas, they are letting go people who can be replaced by cheap labor overseas and AI (people writing Python test scripts, coding, application engineers... ). Actually all companies are doing this using definitions like "efficiency", "underperformers",...

@h9+1jhkgpr5a Qualcomm leadership might not be great but they are not downright stupid. You need to get off your modem high horse that you been riding for many years because the market doesn't care about modem anymore, it's no longer a differentiator by any means. Qualcomm is correct to lower investments in modem and it will only accelerate.

Let’s face it. The only thing that Qualcomm has a competitive advantage is/was the modem. Not good at PCs not good at AI not good at selling services, so far from data center. And it chooses to cut where they had a competitive advantage. This demonstrates the true lack of insight and leadership from Porky, tight wad CFO and the rest of the exec team. The stock can’t recover with imbeciles running the company.

Any team with less that 30 - 70 US/India ratio
will get cuts. Modem is the prime target for this.

Sadly, modem team might be one of the main targets based on previous layoff last September and the announced layoff in MSIP this week. More layoff are coming..
