It’s all about the money. People first, talent management and hire to retire are all gone. In my 25 years, the leadership has shifted to the worst. Now, we have 2 types of leadership/ managers- one that surrounds themselves with weak direct reports which will never challenge them and always ready to kiss their a-s. The second is the fake-expert. He/ she keeps all direct reports isolated and takes all the credit!!
The new leadership is banking on replacing all the lost talent with cheap and inexperienced personnel
So, get ready for a stressful, hostile work environment. If you manage to survive, you’re rewarded with- meet expectations performance review (you can always do better), 2% pay increase every 2 years and if you’re lucky, an incentive of 5%
It’s time to leave cargill… to those who left, you’re better off and to those thinking about joining cargill, DO NOT. They did it to us and they will do the same to you!!

This is extremely concerning, to say the least. I worked for Cargill for over 26 years, and this was not the culture I experienced.
It was never people first...ever. its profit first. People first is and was total bs. Its fake culture nonsense...
Just got laid off with the latest changes at Cargill, I feel so much better now in my mental health. Very toxic there anymore definitely not the Cargill of old. I gave them over 10 years of my life and saved them millions of dollars in my time. Everyone is right though if you think you are safe in your job, you should always have a plan B. Good luck to everyone
I worked for them 26+ years. I went to work for a family owned company who cared about still people in the late 90’s. I left a greedy, owner centric organization focused on costs. My last 5 pay increases were all less than 2%. Bonuses were atrocious. I have been gone now for 2 years and have increased my salary by 20%.
I can't wait to see the fall-out when the Food shared function leaders who were only recently NA SST leaders realize "their way" just doesn't cut it in other enterprises and regions. Cargill tried to standardize before, it didn't work, but some movement towards common practices was achieved. Now they are about to undo all that and try to force "their way" down everyone's throat. Some of the biggest barriers to change where the big American SST plants. They always had to be unique.
I loved working at Cargill and was very proud of our team and our accomplishments. My sad ending though was due to acquisitions of competitors, and then ending up reporting to them. That was a very tough learning experience as they let go most of the sales team that started the successful new division. Overall though the packaged edible oil business that I was allowed to help pioneer was very rewarding. I still miss all the hard working and innovated people I enjoyed working with.
Agree with one of the comments below. I still dont get how the leaders on the Food NA leadership including the top leader were picked? Was it all based on who knows who? These leaders cannot possibly take the company forward, it is shocking.
Regarding 'It’s time to leave Cargill'… In IT / Food, the decisions made by the leadership team have been irrational, leaving everyone upset and prompting many of us to consider leaving. The low morale is disastrous, and the appointment of 'yes-sir' middle managers is only making things worse.
Change management is Cargill’s weakest point, too complex to do it properly and external consultants exploit this fact endlessly. Well they are in for making a lot of money out of Cargill as it’s inevitable. This is a he-l of a car crash organisation. Worse part is one has to be quiet and be seen to comply, although the everyone knows disaster is looming
My position was eliminated by someone that never stepped foot in our plant. They had no idea who I was or how much I've done for the company. I've saved the plant millions of dollars. I miss the people I worked with but I start my new job next Monday and could not be happier.
Was only laid off or downsized once in my life, that was by Cargill after we were purchased by them, lasted 4 years after the purchase, was having a record sales year but it was my turn to go. Would never ever work for them. Its a revolving door
Worked there for 9 years, the greed is sickening. These mega family owned companies will have their days soon. Cargill is a soulless company period.
It’s simple- long time employees are expensive. The so called “leadership” is looking for the cheap and inexpensive!!
We lost a lot of talent and experts. No clear plans and/or communication on what next. I’m getting ready for the fake motivational speeches like “this was a hard decision” or “we need to work as a team”. They will push for more and more out of us because they think they have the upper hand. F this company… it’s time to leave this toxic environment
Im still employed but im afraid not for long, and this post explains it all. The why’s and how’s. And how everyone in management is so scared of the new plant manager. He’s just another human being, doing what he can to fill his pockets of bonuses and credits that are not his due. Doesn’t even how to run the plant, and doing everything in his power to close it down, how come cargill doesn’t see it? Before him it was doing really good, now management is more invested in cutting people’s hours and layoffs than the product (what feeds and profits) itself. It’s a sh-tshow and management is a joke. God bless the good hard working people of fwc
Corporate greed at its best!
Listen up!!! The description of the "New Cargill " is right on the money!!!
Don't kid yourself that it won't happen to you. Likely at the first opportunity it will
I spent 28 years at dedicated, highly motivated , goal oriented manager. Thank goodness I could see the forest ,through the trees and made my move before they made theirs . Take the advice look beyond of you are with them now , and look elsewhere if you as are not!!!
Yes- went through layoffs there in '17. Life is much better away from Cargill.
