Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Earnings aftermath

Now that earnings went so well (lol) - are layoffs still happening January 31/sometime in near future?

No one here actually knows anything. If your looking for rumors or speculation though you came to the right place.

The call didn't change anything fundamentally. The company had close to half a billion dollar loss. Our guidance was lowered a few quarters ago meaning our goal was already lowered so it would be expected that we hit that goal. The problems being cited like inflation, less discretionary spending, PBM pressures, market competition, etc are still very real. Amazon is a tech company getting into healthcare, I'd be interested to see how they use tech and data to push forward. Walgreens unfortunately has seen its best days, didn't evolve fast enough and now we're trying to get leaner and maintain whatever we can.

I don't think anything is off the table, layoffs, company sale and even bankruptcy, all have to be on the table if we don't post real profits. Luckily the way we sell our earnings call matters for stock prices and higher stock does make us look better to public.

Do people really think we'll be sold soon? Impending layoffs?

The earning is helping them to sell. Also if you look at earnings, that was play with numbers, net is not higher than expectations. They are very close to sell the company. Get ready and be prepared
