Thousands of jobs hang in the balance without immediate answers after nationwide retailer Big Lots announced during a going-out-of-business sale in December that it had reached a deal to be sold. The move could keep many of the company’s 869 stores and distribution centers open, but weeks have passed without any news.
Many of those jobs are in Alabama, including at the company’s Montgomery distribution center, which is responsible for making sure products are shipped out to stores to keep shelves stocked. The plant, located on U.S. Highway 80 near Montgomery Regional Airport, employs 491 people, and they’re on notice they could lose their jobs in the near future.
