Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Any news regarding rumored 1/16 layoffs?

There was a lot of talk about layoffs likely being postponed. Anyone know anything for sure?

To the people complaining about help desk techs, from the application development teams it seems like we are not doing IT troubleshooting. No information is provided in tickets anymore and most of the time it was a small issue with the persons computer and not related to our application. One time a user said they couldn’t open an excel file. The IT staff sent the incident to our app team. The issue was the person didn’t have excel.

Where are they finding these people. There is no way offshore can be this bad right?

yeah so i’ve been seeing the same thing with offshoring it. level 2 is basically getting taken over by offshore techs. every day there’s more of them in our teams chats, and anytime a us tech leaves, they don’t even bother replacing them with another us tech. just more offshore people.

honestly, i don’t even care if a company offshores or not. what i care about is if the work actually gets done right, and it’s not. the tickets that get escalated to us are straight-up garbage. like, if someone has a problem with a file on sharepoint, these offshore techs will do the d-mbest cr-p like update the bios or reinstall acrobat. literally just wasting time and not even touching the actual issue.

the most annoying part? management could care less. they’ve been saying for years to report these issues, so we have. over and over and over. has anything changed? nope. in fact, it’s actually getting worse. some of these techs are out here making bigger problems for customers. like, serious ones. and does management do anything? nah. they just sit there pretending everything’s fine.

and it’s not even just the offshore techs. there’s US techs who are just as useless. like, they do the easiest tickets, flex about how many they close, but when you actually check, all they did was send some random “self help” link that has nothing to do with the issue. then they close the ticket and straight-up ignore follow-ups. so the person with the problem has to start over and pray they get someone who actually knows what they’re doing. spoiler: good luck with that.

so yeah, what does all this mean? management does not give a single cr-p. if they did, they’d actually do something about the deadweight US techs and all the level 1 disasters. but nope, they just sit there doing nothing while everything goes to he-l. i have no idea why ive worked here for so long and put in so much of my life into a thankless company.

Leadership has an early morning meeting on Thursday .... 1/16. It doesn't have an agenda. I imagine it is related to workforce reduction.

They are replacing your trained long time 2nd level IT people with "techs" from the Philippines that don't know their a$$ from a hole in the ground when it comes to IT support. "Form street to seat" they have no IT skills and are just cheap warm bodies. Just like the helpdesk techs they will lay off as many US workers that aren't in the C-suite as possible.
If the "tech" can't follow script the management doent care. They could be the worst person doing IT support and they can keep their job because they are dirty cheap. Just wait to be laid off and get any severance you are owed.

They need to do it before RRP and merit increases are due. Otherwise, they will either need to postpone the payments or explain to people why they are not getting bonuses or merit increases. I predict they will take the path of least resistance.

Anyone hear that the entire Home Health utilization management side will be shut down this week?

Guaranteed it will happen before bonuses are paid out. And seriously waiting a month will change the reputation? Laughable

According to our town hall last week globalization will continue through 2025. She said get your resumes up to date and apply out if you find a position you are qualified for in the company or out of the company. Good luck to everyone

Optum tech the kn--e will be bloody as always. Other areas they may delay a bit. Recent acquired companies odds are not in your favor

It is deferred for now, but it will happen. Name has been damaged in the market due to the recent incidents, so if the 01/16 happens, it will further lower the reputation. Share value has gone down, so they will do it for sure (may be after Q1)
