Layoffs should be thought of as "when" not "if". AI, robotics, will continue to improve and jobs will be lost. This is not a Ricoh thing, it will happen almost everywhere. There will be periods where layoffs happen, followed by assessment periods, and then they will make more cuts. I really don't see many legacy companies growing, only being slowly carved up. Manufacturing and back end office processes will be hit the hardest. If you have a couple of decades before you can retire you might want to think of a new career that can leverage the new tech. Somebody has to be able to repair the machines, including the robots. AI can only do so much. AI may tell someone what is wrong, but how often do users even read simple error messages like paper type/size messages. They will call for help first. Just sayin'.
AI? Robotics? What would Ricoh do with these? Either would be more useful at a chain of dollar stores. The best thing to come out of Japan was the ecabinet second only to the car from Canon(sic)ball Run... I can’t think of a third place.

Current leadership & a few more years of poor decisions will deliver Ricoh into a completely failed situation. That’s the “CHANGE” they’ve delivered. Good job! [not]
Smart companies will learn to adapt and use new technologies like AI to help employees be more productive. And a technology services provider like Ricoh should develop solutions that use AI, thereby creating new opportunities to provide value to their customers, and grow. In Ricoh's case, poor management, inability to generate profit, and over reliance on a dead industry will lead to its demise.
