But there's no slog like this one. Yet, it feels like I'm just spinning my wheels, waiting for the whole contraption to fall apart all at once. I’ll take the first reasonable offer I get. What an unfortunate set of circumstances that I found myself stuck here, of all places, at a time when the tech job market is in such bad shape.

I was with Dell for more than 10y. And I am working in a different company now. 5 days in office a week, but I feel happier.
I was at Dell less than 3 years. Recycled EMC (early - mid 90's). Majority of the DNA that made EMC a great company to be part of mostly eradicated. I think I hung on as long as I did with hopes it would improve. Lots of great people but the culture was cancerous and too many Death-Marches.

This. Dell was one of the most low-budget companies I've ever set foot in.
I was at Dell 24 years. I was scared to death to lose my job when the constant waves of layoffs just kept rolling in and impacting colleagues in my team. I was unceremoniously WFRed one random monday after surviving several previous rounds. It felt like a nightmare, but it turns out that the real nightmare was working at Dell.
I landed a great role at a company where employees are not treated like trash to be thrown out or deadweight to be replaced by low cost/lower skilled employees overseas. I'm so much happier and healthier now that I am out. I recommend looking outside of big tech into other industries, because the billionaire CEOs, boards, and big consultancies are all colluding and moving together against the employees that helped them build the companies.
I've loved my role for a while and with a good product but the direction and agile/scrum cr-p paired with "renbe" the last couple of years have me feeling exactly like this :(
This has made it so much worse and less pleasant. There are entire departments of people desperately creating work for all of us in the form of compliance and security bureaucracy to justify our their own existence. The more they cut staff the more they pile on the busy work. It feels intentional to make people leave.
dead give away was during the good revenue years of covid instead of reinvesting back into the company they started liquidating land and buildings.
No growth was ever expected.
I think you give them too much credit. MSD really thought selling real estate when prices were down was a good move because wfh was permanent. Then his idol Bezos sent people back to offices so he had to copy it.
