Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Post Deletes

Just had my post deleted. Considering what they leave here for content, I consider it a complement. Oxy HR is a touchy bunch.

Can you follow a thread? I said...Confidential information.... If you are an example of Oxy's future, I can't wait for the stock run and I can finally sell this t^d. PS. Anything that you signed on induction day regarding professional conduct on social media will come back and bite you on the a*. Lots of luck.

Just FYI, talking about salaries and work conditions with your peers in person and/or online is considered NLRA protected speech. Not only you can’t be fired for it, but your employer can be fined for suppressing it.
Google it.

So we need to add three or four full-time HR employees to review keystroke information! Please tell us what else is going on that we need to be concerned about. It’s pretty clear you’ve put some thought into it.

You are foolish. People have been fired for downloading company information (PS ..information is a corporate competitive advantage). Can't wait till Legal an HR step into your office and show you the door. It's all recorded...good luck!

Let them check the keystrokes. They would have to fire everyone if they ever did anything about it. As long as people get their jobs done and don’t break company policies the keystroke data will never be used against an employee at Oxy.

Good thing you do not work at the company. Every keystroke is logged (think about that when you are on Amazon during work hours). All company data retrieved and downloaded is recorded. Yes, they are reviewing social media. It is obvious that most people trolling this site are not employees.

So I guess one full time employee could do it if they looked at every employee only once a month. The company doesn't care if its confidential information is on on the web for just a month.

@qh+1jh0zcynk, why do they need to look over their shoulders??

No, that group of employees does exist. It’s a bit of a secret organization, though. They meet in a huge room underground that you have to have an iris scan to enter. Then they all sit in front of computers in a theater like room with a huge screen in front of all of them that shows real time information about employees posting on the Internet. I saw it in a dream. It’s real.

@14f+1jh0zcynk, so according to its most recent data, the company has over 12,000 employees. what type of staff would be required to look at all of these employees’ Facebook and LinkedIn post? Let’s see, an employee that looks at three employees a minute would look at 1,440 employees a day if they took no breaks, did not attend any staff meetings, and didn’t do any goofing off. So that would take over eight full-time employees whose entire job would include looking at Facebook and LinkedIn all day long. (great career path by the way). And what about embedded contractors? Aren’t they privy to sensitive information as well? Maybe we need another dozen HR employees to look at their Facebook and LinkedIn. What about X? And what about the anonymous sites? Do we need another four or five employees to comb through them every day. Ignorance may indeed be bliss. Some things are worse than ignorance.

They have staff looking at your facebook and linkedin posts to make sure confidential information is not published. You are obviously not an employee. If you were, it is simple enough to ask and find out.
Part of the hiring process is a security check which entails a social media review. All those crazy pictures and posts can come home to bite.
I guess in your case, ignorance is truly bliss.

“I bet they have someone in HR whose sole purpose in life is to monitor social media.” Yeah, that’s me. The one thing I was not prepared for when I took this job is the amount of utterly ridiculous posts that some people make. Do you guys really believe that certain employees are paid to surf the web looking for comments about the company that are not “authorized”?

@xg+1jh0zcynk is closer to the truth about what WE are doing. We shall allow this post to remain. That is all.

Not sure if the company regularly monitors this site or not, but what would make you believe the HR department would be responsible? Why not legal? Why not a third party that reports to legal?

The company must have some unwritten agreement about what is sensitive and needs to be removed.

I bet they have someone in HR whose sole purpose in life is to monitor social media. Oxy is very active on Facebook and Linkedin. You are naive if you think they do not monitor this dung pile too.

Given the workplace abuse that HR endorses and their total lack of consideration for future consequence, I'm surprised they even bother monitoring this board. They should be too busy looking over their shoulder.

This question comes up from time to time - steer clear of f-wording and insulting others, as site mods don’t like it. Mods also don’t allow offtopics, such as political rants or low effort ‘stock is up/down’ posts. As for HR, rest assured, they have no influence over the content here.
