Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lower pay with a higher title

I have a chance to accept a job with a higher title than my current one (outside of Intel), but the pay is lower. Not by a huge amount, but it's still noticeable. The benefits are about the same. Has anyone made a similar move? I’m thinking I’ll be eligible for a raise soon, but I’m still unsure.

Is the new company “relevant”, ie in growth mode. If it’s essentially a bank teller job with VP title, No

No one will be getting significant raises for a long time. Intel is not done cutting head count so even if you survive the workload will be crushing and morale will be even lower.

It is an employer's market so wages will be lower in most cases.

They are just going to hire you so they can fire you. Cleaning up the Intel Kelly Girl mess.

If you're younger, take it. You can always job hop again, the title may help, as long as it's not a manager title. There's a surplus of managers and companies are trying to become more efficient by laying off managers or re-assigning them to engineering roles.

If the role is interesting and the company is growing, go. $$ will work its way out eventually.

Plus, Intel will be in cost-cutting mode for the foreseeable future.

Is the company growing? More responsibility? A different growing industry? More opportunity for personal growth?

Do it.

If the company is growing, you’re better off going there. Avoid stagnant or shrinking companies.
