Navigating Workplace Discrimination and Unfair Treatment: My Experience and Seeking Guidance

In mid-2024, my director gave me an extremely negative performance review, claiming that she was informed by a colleague on the team that I was not doing my job and not meeting expectations. These allegations were entirely false. The colleague who made these negative comments discriminated against me based on my gender and race. I also noticed that this colleague was friends with contractors and manipulated them to accuse me of not doing my job, while silently listening in meetings as the contractor made these accusations. This colleague and my director have been Facebook friends for over 12 years and often text and share jokes via emails and Teams chat.
In my mid-year performance review, my director mentioned that with the negative feedback she received, she could not protect me from the next round of layoffs. She advised me to look for another job immediately or face a potential layoff in October 2024.

I started applying for internal positions to transfer, but each application was either rejected or canceled, coinciding with the times I informed my director about my transfer attempts.

In October 2024, my paid time off (PTO) was unexpectedly paid out, which I suspected was related to my impending layoff. When I asked my director about this, she pretended to be surprised and claimed to have no idea why my PTO was paid. She told me to wait and see what the leadership would decide regarding my layoff between March and May 2025.

I suspect that my director is preventing my transfer to another department. I've noticed a change in her behavior—she's no longer pushing me to look for jobs and now praises my work during our one-on-one meetings, claiming I've improved. She has even begun giving out employee recognition, and the colleague who used to criticize me is now offering praise and points whenever the director acknowledges my efforts. This sudden change is very suspicious; I believe they are plotting to lay me off in the March-May 2025 round while keeping up a good facade to avoid suspicion about their true intentions.

Collect all the information you can and don't let anyone tell you that it'd be easier not to fight. These disgusting sc-mbags need to be taught a lesson and the administration we have now will finally be open to hearing these completely legitimate claims if you can get the information to the right person

As others have suggested, find another job outside CVS. Also look inward. There is likely a basis for your negative review and others stating you are not pulling your weight. Get a new job, buckle down, put in the work, go above and beyond expectations. Stop blaming others for your failings. Good luck

“it could be worse” is this what incompetent cvs employees tell themselves? That’s 100% false. It can’t get any worse, CVS is it

Oh it could be worse. You could be targeted by actual family members hired by a VP because they slept with their boss...

Same scenario with me October 2020 laidoff. The two a-s wipes Facebook friends and both work together now at Molina.
Just keep your head down if you're laid off you at least get six months of money. The job market is sh-t everywhere right now.

Did the director used to work through TCS as a contractor before? Majority of IT leadership is hired from TCS and I’ve heard so many horror stories similar to yours! The fact that other management lets this continue is just to hide their own mess. What a dumpster fire!

OP - what about your reviews before 2024, were they good?

I have seen plenty of similar situations and was a victim of similar behavior. 360 reviews are just an excuse to brand people and get them out the door while taking credit for their work by incompetent managers and to cash-in on employee referrals. I would look elsewhere.

Ugh let me guess the said manager is from TCS gang or used to work there? They’re the sc-mmiest, most incompetent, dishonest and delusional group I’ve come across. Sorry OP- hope you get out and land a nice job soon! I did! There’s hope out there

Favoritism and discrimination are rampant at CVS. I was the only nonwhite person who was laid off from my team. My former supervisor also follows her direct report on social media.

I am sure previous commenter @Sebestian must be a manager/LD.
I would suggest documenting and collecting all pertaining information about this and contacting a lawyer.
Good luck, this type of behavior is very rampant in many teams/groups.
