Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Chicago

With all the layoff talks, is the Chicago office safe? Been there a few years and thought about asking to transfer to Texas.

Yeah transfer to Austin. They definitely won't ever lay anyone off there or close that office.

One trading group is being relocated to Orlando, as part of their expansion.

Wow, seems like a move from Chicago to Orlando would cause major culture shock! Also, for those with kids in school, this seems like a major uprooting.

Schwab would be better off letting staff in closing centers telecommute most of the time, and then spend a week or two per quarter at the newly designated location hub, rather than having folks completely pull up stakes and move there.

The lease is up in 2026. Certain groups are already being required to fill job openings due to Chicago departures or terminations in Westlake. Because there are a significant number of senior folks in Chicago, I suspect they will maintain a reduced presence in Chicago for the foreseeable future but its going to be withering away over time.

I think 150s lease is coming up. No reason to keep it, but not that expensive either.

Advice? Always have an exit plan. Every single day.

And you don't want to go to Texas no matter how bad the Bears are.
