For those on the foundry side

Be weary. Be very weary.
One the split happens (and it will), Foundry will be tagged as a MFG company - not engineering. This means work environment will likely erode along with wages and benefits. What you have seen under the guise of austerity is only the beginning.

Historically, all manufacturing engineers typically made considerably less then those on
the design side.

What did you expect? There’s little individual contribution to packing as many transistors into the smallest package that provides utility to Intel and customers. If ya’ll aren’t ready for hard core manufacturing, TSMC and others are happy to eat your pie
