Cargill plant in Eddyville to lay off 29 workers following workers strike & lawsuit

A layoff is announced for the Eddyville Cargill plant.

According to a report from the Iowa Workforce Development, they will be laying off 29 people, effective on Feb. 5.

These layoffs are following a month long strike at the Cargill Corn Milling in Cedar Rapids that began Oct. 1 and ending on Oct. 31.

Nearly 100 workers went on strike, represented by union Teamsters 238, after Cargill's wage offer, "failed to meet industry standards or adequately address inflation," according to the union.

Cargill then threatened to cut off health insurance for striking workers if they were still on strike after Oct. 31.

This is old news that the TV news aired during the holidays. The layoffs were the December sla-ghter. Because of the WARN act requiring 60 days notice the layoff off people are still employed through February 5th, they just don't have to show up.
