MS along with the big ten tech giants are cutting back. The tech sector jobs like the manufacturing sector is gone. PE groups are getting rich by selling off US jobs. Time to switch careers.

Maybe I'll move from Tech to Carpentry. At least I'll get something done.
None of this is true from my perspective. I’m being aggressively recruited by the big tech firms and have had a manager and director at a manufacturing company I used to work for offer to hire me back. I haven’t even changed my LinkedIn profile to indicate I’m looking for work. There are plenty of opportunities out there right now. Don’t let the doom and gloom get to you.
Switch careers to what exactly? What's career choice is comparable?
I don't know about "switch careers" but it's advisable to ALWAYS have a side hustle. I've heard that many developers are moonlighting. That's a great idea. Or you could start a garage business.
