Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Is Giant Eagle being bought out?

Starting to hear rumors. And there are a bunch of weird meetings scheduled this week. Does anyone have any info?

That was not a town hall meeting. It was a business leadership conference at Carnegie Mellon University

Townhall Q&A with Laura and David. Seems like they only get softball questions

Hmmm not sure if you’re serious or a troll… None the less, how much time is needed? How about 3.5 more months. I’ll check back on 3/31/23. Whoever is wrong has to donate a crisp $100 bill to a charity or food bank. I strongly feel these rumors are bs as always…as always…as always… They have been bs for well over 20 years so I’m confident they’ll be bs for the next 100 days. If princess can’t figure out how to sell a company in over 5 months (thread started in October) then guess what…it’s not selling! See you then!

Y’all silly! There absolutely is some truth to the company selling, and I know this based off my position with Giant Eagle. I will leave it at that since I have absolutely nothing to prove here.

Why y’all silly? Because selling a company this large isn’t like selling your 1998 6 piece stereo set at your last garage sale. It takes years to formulate an exit strategy and negotiations take time, but let us not forget there are government entities who also have to approve the sale/purchase of (public) corporations.

Let’s face it, they are working on purchasing back independent locations, which has been eluded previously in multiple posts, because interested parties (ie Kroger) is not in the business to entertain independent stores. They are very much working on separating GetGo to hold onto, but yet again, fuelperks is the only lucrative part of the business. I’m fact, which will prove my knowledge, most folks don’t know that David is the one who “invented” fuelperks and holds the legal “rights” to the loyalty program as written. If you have the knowledge to do so, you could absolutely confirm that information with some heavy research.

Moreover, I know this first hand and not stupid enough to give more detail that could potentially identify myself. There’s still a good handful of us around who know this to be fact, so I’m confident our all mighty “loss prevention” executive, who’s sleeping with the Executive Vice President who’s also his wife, will ever figure me out. He’s too busy stuffing his fat face and coughing all over people in meetings.

Such a fat pig he is.

Are you telling me the potato chip guy, beer rep, coinstar repair tech, and roadkill cleaner upper guy were all wrong?!?! I thought they were all solid!
This rumor has been running strong for well over a decade. It hasn’t happened yet. I doubt it will happen anytime soon. Laura’s ego is just too big to sell away her dads company outright. And certainly too big to seriously consider taking orders from a “parent company” CEO. Given this, it won’t sell until Laura admits she can no longer successfully run a company that was essentially given to her turn key. The likelihood of Laura admitting defeat, whether true or not, is about negative 10000%. Personally I’d rather see Kroger or Publix move into Pittsburgh and Cleveland and kick the cr-p out of GE!

This thread is dead. I guess that giant eagle isn't being bought out. Damn was hoping a better company would take over

The Hallmark rep said the meetings were to inform independent owners what would happen with independent stores when Giant Eagle sells. One of the issues with Kroger buying Giant Eagle is they do don’t have independent owners

Any idea what those "weird meetings" that were the reason for this post were all about?

Just an FYI. The Schwebel’s driver told me he heard Giant Eagle is selling.

Big thanks to whoever made the satirical post about the dude who digs the chunks of roadkill out of the truck saying the company was being sold lol. That gave me a pretty good laugh for the evening. And the point of it is completely true. For years its been "the potato chip guy said" or "the dude who fixes the registers said". Some day they probably will sell. It probably won't be in the family forever and ever. But it ain't today. And it won't ever be based on the word of some Joe Blow who "knows somebody"

How’s the whole bought out thing going? The guy that digs chunks of roadkill out of the tractor trailer front grills told me he was in a meeting with all the high powered attorneys yesterday. His opinion when asked was to sell… I’ll check back in a few weeks when the company is still owned by the same group of a-holes that have owned it for decades. I do however have a meeting with a former photo lab assistant manager that retired in 1994…I’m sure she’ll know something…
Silliness…

The issue with Giant Eagle outsourcing to India is they should be able to have lower prices if they are saving money but everything at Giant Eagle is at least a dollar more then any other grocery store. Compare Giant Eagle prices with Target. It will blow your mind how expensive Giant Eagle is

Companies outsource to India to save money. Why can’t Giant Eagle do the same?

I would be interested in how many privately owned companies, who portray themselves as locally owned and operated, outsource their IT (their local employees) to India.

Your statement, while correct in a general sense, is missing the point; they avoided outsourcing for quite a few years. I would assume because it flies in the face of how they want to be portrayed. Now their backs are against the wall.

Outsourcing to India is a very common thing with US companies. If you look into it you will find most major companies to the outsourcing. Especially in the grocery industry

There are only so many twists, turns, and maneuvering that they can do to keep the ever extending family VPs and Directors in 100K (minimum) bonuses each year. Outsourcing IT to India is a hail mary. They might not sell now, but they won't weather the next economic downturn.

For those who think Giant Eagle won’t sell because David is still around your crazy. I can give you first hand knowledge the grocery business isn’t as profitable as it used to be. There is a reason Giant Eagle prices are higher then it’s competitors. They have such a huge overhead and they are barely staying afloat. Yea the pandemic was good to Giant Eagle but the years before the pandemic were not and now the Pandemic are over.. SELL BABY SELL!

Many other grocery chains have interest in buying Giant Eagle. The front runner is Kroger but apparently a mystery chain has showed interest. The sticking point right now is Getgo. They don’t want to sell Getgo as part of the transaction and they buyer is concerned with losing Fuel Perks

David is 88 now and he's a non factor at this point as he's probably dead soon. To be honest people on this site think they know everything. Who is thinking about buying Giant Eagle? Does anyone know that???

I know people on this site will say this is nonsense but today I seen the technician working on the Coin Star machine and said Giant Eagle is definitely selling and should be finalized within 60 days

The rumor of GE being bought has been running strong for over a decade now…and guess what…hasn’t happened yet. Unlike the potato chip guy and a beer vendor, I have a legit inside executive that has been saying for years that as long as David is alive, GE isn’t selling…period!! And unlike the beer guy, potato chip guy, or whatever some other dope says, my guy has been right thus far. Just knock it off with this silly nonsense.

Something suspicious is happening. There re back-to-back meetings with the independent owners later in the week. Maybe Giant Eagle is forcing the last independents out?
