I think we're now seeing the composition of employees who will stay until the acquisition. Those who wanted to leave have done that already, barring a few who are still struggling to find a new position. Outside of layoffs, I don't think we'll be looking at major attrition from this point on.

I was planning a 6 month minimum break from working at all. Depending on bonuses and RSU awards, I was going to be out in 12-18 months just to unplug, and I have a nice series of RSU vesting through March and a reasonable bonus in April. I'm not in a rush for the exit yet, but my burnout has burnout, so if I get re-org'd out early or this takes more than a year, a new job is not part of my immediate plans.
Don't forget that people are often waiting to leave until their next RSU cliff. I know of a guy who had a job lined up for a couple months but waited until his vest a couple weeks ago to give notice. Probably seeing fallout from this soon.
"Most who began as soon as the announcement happened are just getting ready."
I am not an engineer. But I started looking the same day of the announcement. It took a week to update my web site and resume. It took 4 months to land a new job. That was after submitting at least 100+ resumes. The job market changed very dramatically. All of the major tech companies froze new hiring. Tons of tech workers have been laid off. So on top of a bad job market, you are competing with 1000's of others now.
So just be aware that the going might not be that easy and finding a new job, even if you still have a job will probably take time. And probably more time than you think.
Some ran. Some hurried. In general, the thought is there. Action to follow but only for the right role.
I can tell OP is not a software engineer. If you haven't done it in the recent past, interview prep takes many months of daily cramming, and the grind only gets worse every year since it's an arms-race with no end. Most who began as soon as the announcement happened are just getting ready. If this keeps dragging on with silence from Broadcom as to their intentions in every area, watch out.
It ramp up after January- companies typically slow down during these months
Yeah. People here are ones that will stay or stay long enough to get severance and then move on. Its not wrong, or a problem. Everyone should get as much compensation for their time as possible. Whether you are a brand new engineer or a Senior director. You have to look out for your family and your finances. No one else will.
We’ll see what comes after the 5th of December. That should be an interesting ELT meeting on campus…
I left a few months ago. A lot of others I know have left more recently. Because we got the message right away: That things were probably going to suck one way or another regardless of whether we were laid off or brought over to BC. I am still bitter. Had to leave the nicest bunch of people and a company that seemed to treat employees decently just because some billionaires wanted to make more billions.
Some are timing it to double dip. Waiting for severance before the exit
Probably. But some are still in the midst of interviews etc. There will also be some recruiting from those who have left. But the mass exodus will probably slow down unless some additional unpleasant news come out to cause more unhappiness
