I'm struggling to decide if I should start looking for a new job or stay at Qualcomm. I've been wanting to leave for a while but with all the tech layoffs, I'm worried that if I quit and start over somewhere else, I might be the first one they decide to let go due to seniority. Still, it's not as if job security is a guarantee at this place. I can't decide what to do. Is staying here the safer option right now?

I was under the same dilemma few years ago when layoffs were around the corner at Q. I survived, then I got a good project to work on, I took it easy and gave my 200% and now here I am stuck at the same place where a** lickers rose above me just because they have visibility in high level meetings. Now looking back, I missed my opportunity to change, interview preps are getting tougher, years of experience mounting which makes me overqualified for most position that I see available in the market. Those who left last time are now managers at top companies.
Bottom line: Move while you still can and have an opportunity, don't rely too much on market/news/ifs/buts. You never know when you will become inconsequential at Q and kicked out in no time.
If you are truly unhappy with Qualcomm, you should start looking around. Especially if your unhappiness is represented in your review scores.
If you are really just wanting more money, your best bet would be to stay with Qualcomm.
Leave...companies are still hiring....
Qualcomm is perfect place for 10AM-4PM job (plus lunch break), attend few meetings and collect status. The only wrinkle is, if you try to find job with Qualcomm skill you are out of luck. Try to learn survival skills (not technical) from folks who are in Qualcomm for 10+years
So sad reading all the posts above. Same cr-p as years ago. So glad I bailed out of Q years ago and never looked back. It is such a "has been" company.
@4qz it is too late to interview now even with skills. The window where talentless applicants could join faang is passed. We are now in cost control stage in most of tech
If you have skills that are in demand make your highest priority task applying and interviewing.
People who show leadership skills like pushing work to others and collect status to report in meetings have high visibility, will get good ratings and stay in the company. To all these hard working people who get their hands dirty to solve issues, plan your future so that you don't keep getting mistreated. Don't trust magement or HR, no one will think from your best interest. Because you have been doing actual work, you have marketable skills.
I can see you have never been through a Qualcomm layoff cycle. Seniority has nothing to do with who gets let go. Payroll and age are the biggest factors and with people who bond brown nose enough. But from your post you have the mentality of a Qualcomm lifer - so stay and don’t bet on your skills…. Qualcomm seems to be a perfect place for you
