Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Morale at an all-time low

Reports from inside corporate state that morale is at its lowest point ever. The rise of Indian staffing, the random firing of long term local employees, completely misguided technology direction, delusions of grandeur in the executive team.

Leave and starve them out. The company will toss you aside the moment a bean counter finds a few more dollars by firing you.

And I remember when Daddy’s Daughter made the comment “When we get on the list we will make shirts and go big with in store celebrations”.. I’ve always wondered what Daddy’s Daughter’s reaction was when she was told Giant Eagle will never make it on the list.

Yep. They just wanted on the list without doing any of the things needed to actually encourage employees to vouch for them.

What a sad, manipulative attempt to gain social media points.

I was also with the company during the Great Places to Work initiative. GE thought they were just going to buy their way onto the list. Not only did they expect to be on the list…the initiative specifically said within the top 50?!? Are you freaking kidding me!!?? They couldn’t make the top 1000… It turns out that if you want to be on the list you need to treat your people well, pay them well, provide good benefits, and generally not be a bunch of greed driven a-holes… This was obviously too high of a mountain for GE to climb and the initiative was abandoned. The 2022 list just came out. Wegmans was number 3 (congrats to them). Also on the list was Target, Sheetz, Publix and Nugget. Keep dreaming Giant Eagle lol!

I’ve been away from the company for years but I remember when Daddy’s Daughter took over she admired the fact that Wegmans was consistently on the “Forbes Top 100 Companies To Work For” list and she started the initiative to get Giant Eagle on that list. It didn’t take long for Daddy’s daughter to realize that Giant Eagle would never be able to get on that list. I also remember when Daddy’s Daughter fell in love with Target and decided she wanted to mimic Target. It didn’t take long for Daddy’s daughter to realize Giant Eagle couldn’t compare to the type customer service Target gives its customers. When I left the company and executive said to me “She’s crazy. She believes Giant Eagle is something it’s not”

Gender has nothing to do with this. It’s just poor leadership with a severe lack of compassion and empathy. Colleen Wegman is loved. She has an 85% approval rating where Laura has 55% on Glassdoor. Giant eagle leadership scores lower than Walmart leadership…seriously…Walmart. But this is what happens when you put max profits at the very top of your priority list. They can say Team Members are at the top all they want…they’re full of sh!t. Actions speak louder than words. Showing loyal TM’s the door to be replaced with lower paid Indian workers is putting profits in front of people. Colleen Wegman wouldn’t do something like that.

Laura Karet is a good example as to why females make worse CEOs than men. Don't believe me or think I'm just being chauvinistic read this
