If someone who's been here a long time is older but does great work and is therefore more useful for the company than a younger newbie who doesn't care about work here at all - then why age discrimination? Of course, I'm not saying that all young hires are bad employees, nor that all older ones are good, but in general Macy's should do something about age discrimination. Just my opinion.

Macys thinks that younger people should want to work there for a career. However, younger employees may not to work at a retailer that doesn’t want to change its old technology, it’s old store format, and products that do not attract younger customers.
Oh they are hiring 20 something’s in my store alright.
They call off every other day.
When they do show up they are late.
They refuse to work weekends and nights.
They come to work high.
They play on their phones all day.
Many of them have been terminated for theft. Some within a few days of being hired.
Lots of luck luck to Macy’s for wanting to hire youth.
If Macy's really is trying to get rid of older employees and replace them with younger people then the joke's on them cuz people most 20-somethings would rather chew off their left arms than work at Macy's.
Waiting for someone to file an age discrimination lawsuit at store 621. All of the senior employees have been placed on the dock. I understand it’s a ploy to force them out but at some point somebody is going yo call BS on Macy’s.
OSHA should be called. The conditions on the dock are unsafe. Boxes stacked unevenly to the rafters and falling over onto people, employees being told to tag merchandise on the parked unheated trailer, no equipment to properly and safely unload trucks, leaking ceiling and the back wall is covered with mold, fire halls and exits blocked with merchandise and new employees smoking weed in the bathroom. The whole operation is a joke. The management just walks through and does absolutely nothing about the hazardous, unsafe working conditions.,
Get a grip. I will never understand why colleagues come up with half baked “moral dilemmas”‘ when it comes to opening credit.
You aren’t putting a g-n to their head, you aren’t saying they can’t leave without opening a card. It’s the customers choice to open one or not, get off your high horse and stop trying to police everything. Additionally, so long as the balance is paid in full each month there is NO interest charged. Who the heck are you to police what people pay with or if they open credit. Your JOB is to ask, nothing else. As a former manager once said, “do your job” Please get a grip on reality.
True the young people are cheaper, they are getting pay between $15 - $18 per hour. Most of them don't have health problems. The older employees that have been with Macy's longer than 10 years have plenty of health problems like back pain, knees problems or shoulder pain. ISM was install just to get rid of the old timers.
I've been screwed over by this company more times than I can count. ISM was the last straw. Used to do merchandising but was pushed to the floor. I am sick of the managers sucking up certain employees and treating the rest of us like garbage. The profit margin is not that slim. They buy all those clothes for pennies on the dollar. The markups are unreal. Maybe if they didn't spend all that money on stupid visual fixtures . With the interest charges on our store card going up to 29.75 percent i no longer feel comfortable opening charges and will no longer do so. Its disgusting a company would think people would want to open a charge with that interest
The younger people are cheaper- they don’t have to pay them as much and insurance is cheaper bc they typically don’t have as many health problems. To Macy’s , its workers are just numbers. It’s not right, but profit margins are thin and they’ll try to save however they can. At the end of the quarter, if Macys spends more money than it makes, shareholders will hold company leaders accountable. It’s your neck or theirs.
benifits and vaction pay they don't want to pay it out, also they have such a slim work force if someone goes on vaction there is noone on the floor.
I agree with you. They treat the young college kids who don’t even care about the job so well accommodating them with their scheduling and letting them be on their phones or their little ear phones. Whereas we as older employees have gotta to do all the work and are given such a hard time for asking for specific scheduling requests. And I am not even that old. I am in my 30s.
