Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Does NML offer severences for laid off / fired employees?

I need to get out of here. I'm sick of my toxic and incompetent manager. Trying to decide between just quitting on the spot, or stay and try to get fired/laid off.

Does NML usually give severances to terminated employees? How long do you think it would take to get fired if I just completely stopped trying or caring?

@2zbq+1jZPkGBC It is very difficult to fire someone, or issue any discipline to them, at NM. Even a first written warning goes through multiple layers of approval and HR people before being presented. I can definitely see why people complain about co-workers not pulling their weight, playing around all day, etc. HR actions are significantly difficult to execute. This is coming from a manager who had to put someone through disciplinary action last year.

Once you reach the final warning stage, you can opt for the voluntary separation plan and get a payout to leave the company.

Im a fairly new employee (haven't even reached my six month mark yet). I already know i want to leave and never even thought about severances and waiting to be let go. Are new employees eligible? Do you have to go through a long PIP process?

Just stop doing any work, come in late, leave early, work from home a lot, long lunches....wait you will probably be promoted!

If you want details, the severance SDP is available on the DC. You can also use Ask HR if you need help locating it. The plan for an involuntary termination is not very significant.

Yes, they typically do. I was told part of NM's staffing model involves having contractors in more replaceable roles because we don't have to give them things like severance and COBRA when we do.

I am in the same boat as you. I came to NM from a startup hoping for stable employment and growth, yet the uncertainly of what's to come in the new tech budgets plus everyone from my AD to my C-level being replaced in the past year has been a huge challenge, and I've never been fully trained in my role because I've had 4 different managers in the past year who had different ideas of what I should be doing. I feel like I should stick it out and see if the rumors of upcoming layoffs are true or if I should just search for a new role more aggressively. I'm torn.
