Thos is what the guy that got deleted was talking about.
Federal law allows unions and employers to enter into "union-security" agreements which require all employees in a bargaining unit to become union members and begin paying union dues and fees within 30 days of being hired. Employees may choose not to become union members and pay dues, or opt to pay only that share of dues used directly for representation, such as collective bargaining and contract administration. Known as objectors, they are no longer union members, but are still protected by the contract. Unions are obligated to tell all covered employees about this option, which was created by a Supreme Court ruling and is known as the Beck right.

Personally I would take the money and run. I have 2 neighbors who are doing exactly that.
They figured out that they can't win. One can't afford to be on the road and try to make a living for the family because of the money used to fuel/motel/meals to get to the job site doesn't cover anything. The other is retiring. Both are tired of the bs.
May as well …In a couple of years we will be in contact negotiations again with the carriers . This time wait another three years “but we will strike “ and not be given a choice one man crews or take the deal . To the younger railroads take the backpay and run while you still can .
Where the he-l is our money going? Oh yeah to the big guy because he will be there for unions.
Haven't you heard... I was in the room when Jim Foote said we make the same pay as Airline Pilots.
It was difficult holding my composure.
I’m ok paying dues if I actually get something from it. With that being said find me another Union that pays as much as we do. It’s supposed to be 2.5 hours of pay per month. How are we paying 160?
