Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

Nice move, huh?

"In a series of tweets Monday, (EM) went after Apple (AAPL), accused the tech giant, and world's most-valuable company, for what he claimed was Apple's (AAPL) slashing of its advertising on Twitter (TWTR)."

In the end, Tim invited Elon for a little walk around the Apple Campus Pond and they "made peace." Including Elon deleting all his "mean tweets" about Apple.

You can imagine anything you like about the conversation - personally I hope there was at least one hint about pushing Elon INTO the pond - but Apple did what it was going to do, smooth things over, keep doing business. Did Elon get a discount on the 15% (that's his real rate, 30% is for first year of service)..... who knows? who cares? It's really not much money to Apple, it's one of those "principal of the thing" cases. Shut down the controversy fast, keep business flowing. I can, however, tell you who had the upper hand in the conversation - Tim Cook. Otherwise the little "friendly chat" would have been in San Francisco, not Cupertino. Or at the very least, over at Round Table Pizza in Menlo Park, neutral ground!

If not zero, Musk certainly has very little leverage. Barriers to entry into Apple's market are high. Barriers to entry into Twitter's market are...

Wait a minute, why would anyone want to enter an unprofitable market?

For Tim Cook, the choice of pleasing Musk or Apple shareholders does not look difficult.

I mostly agree with the "all about the Benjamins" post, except I think Musk has ZERO leverage here.

I think Apple will crush Musk like a bug very publicly and that "every other large company on the app store" watching will just be icing on the cake for Apple. FAFO what happens when you don't comply with the Apple TOS.

But yeah, Leon, by all means launch your own phone...

This is "All About the Benjamins" - money. Apple is both Twitter's greatest single customer (advertiser) and greatest single distributor (AppStore). Any business in the world wants to maximize revenue from their customers and minimize costs with their distributers.

"Normal" companies in a jo--t customer/distributer relationship with Apple would have a series of careful executive-level discussions, agreements, and compromises. The tech world if full of these types of mixed relationships and "frenemies." Love him or hate him, Elon has proved himself to be anything but "Normal." He seems to think he can bully and berate Apple to get an advantage in this customer/vendor relationship. Good freakin' luck!, but stranger things have happened. Elon's true leverage is that every other large company on the AppStore is watching. It's in Apple's interest to tamp this controversy down as fast as possible, keep things smooth, keep the peace. So Elon can get an advantage by being a jerk, but only up to a point....

What are the chances that Elon recognizes that subtle point where he's pushed his "frenemy" too far? Once again, I'm firing up my popcorn popper!

Such a baby. Unbelievable. Just like the other cry baby that didn't want to accept election results. EM and yellow face should open a band - The CryBabies ... next in your home town.

Oh, it gets even better...

EM "claims that Apple has threatened to “withhold” Twitter from the iOS App Store for unknown reasons. The news follows a tweet where Musk said Apple had “mostly stopped advertising” on the platform and a poll asking whether Apple should “publish all censorship actions it has taken that affect its customers.”

“Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter,” Musk tweeted on Monday. “Do they hate free speech in America?”

America answers, "Nope. Love free speech. Just dislike free hate speech. Why pay$8 for hate speech?".
