The Great Resignation affected Dow Inc too. It was the perfect storm. Driving subject matter experts out the door was the loss of the pension + has never known how to retain talent. The young generation barely wants to show up at the office, and certainly did not want to learn from / network with old-timers, preferring to reinvent the wheel from their safe spaces. Good for them, but that doesn't make money for the co. The Dow mothership prefers to meddle in politics and social issues rather than supporting new product development. It is not their place to push their political /social propaganda agenda on me. I enjoyed the job I did, then I saw the handwriting on the wall and got out when a high level manager announced that we were going to have to START tightening our belts & pull our own weight and this could mean doing the work of two or even three other people. Kidding me? We were already bare bones lean doing the work of two people. Dow could benefit from cutting half of their middle & upper level managers. They could benefit by reducing the bureaucracy. No company is too big to fail.

A lot of leaders who are Dow lifers and contribute very little seem comfortable at the moment…. I worry that the headcount reduction will impact front lines rather than the fat!!!!

Drop those infected with Welchism and start focusing on long term innovative new tech! The red oceans are already swimming with sharks.
Drop those in denial who refuse to listen to the warning signs.
Cheap does not equal good quality.
Don’t end up with the narrative “there was once a 125 y.o. company which used to be great…”

Cyclic business… top Level management dont seem to see this: hire like crazy when times are good, fire like crazy when times are bad. Firings and uncertainty driving good people to competitors whilst deadwood hangs on. Slippery slope for Dow who need a refocus

Strange chemical co at the moment. Promotions not decided on technical merit. Lots of meetings and talking, not a lot of action. Needs more than a headcount reduction, needs a cultural reboot with a focus on getting work done and nothing else

A lot more than 2000 can go. But a lot of deadwood will survive because they tick a box. No faith that this leadership will even make a restructure actually benefit the bottom line as the the focus is not making chemicals

Time to rip the bandage off! Company needs to focus on efficiency, making chemicals, nothing else.
