That's funny someone thinks JD is the only talent left in HR. JD is what is wrong with Staples. Least trustworthy and genuine SLT member. I'm just thankful SD was canned. JD is insufferable but the combination of SD and JD was unbearable. Talk about creating a hostile work environment. Those two did it in spades.

@1bsk+1jUDCf0a this thinking is not going to help you when the axe falls. "Nice and caring" managers don't mean squat when they can't advocate for their people.

You are undervalued, underpaid, and overworked by a company that is only interested in short-term profits, owned by private equity that's only interested in unloading their debt, and led by senior managers who are only interested in getting their ideas noticed by other senior managers.

I suggest taking some time to try and work out what the next 3 steps in your career at Staples looks like -- I seriously doubt you'll be able to see it clearly. There is little (if any) forward planning or career roadmapping at this company - the only positions that matter to the Csuite are Director and above.

Good luck.

HR needs to term the gal from Legal. No Talent experience left at Staples other than Janice herself.

Give me a break to the person who said Staples has not laid off people in years! Get your head out of the sand! So many were laid off in 2020 during Covid, especially the older folks who frankly had more knowledge and work ethic…..and many years of service! …than some that were spared being laid off! And how about 2021….hundreds let go! Just a matter of time before it happens again!

To the user who said you are 20-40% under compensated. You are exactly right. I was at Staples for 22 years. Furniture division last 15. Massive changes, bad decisions in my dept led me to look elsewhere which led me to a 27% raise in my new job. I feel like I am finally being paid what I should have been paid 10 years ago. I left on my terms not theirs. Others were not so lucky in furniture. Staples is known for being frugile in pay. I asked for a slight raise when I stayed on once my job was set to end ( I applied for jobs before my exit was done and got one of the jobs I applied for) and was told flat out no. If you don't take this job my new Mgr was told to go on to the next person. I stayed for 3 more months while looking. I just don't see them lasting with the decisions being made.

"The Plan is working" - Ron S.

On the plus side, maybe Sycamore will be too busy pulling costs out (i.e., layoffs) of Lowes Canada to focus on Staples for awhile.

You clearly are not aware of what comparable companies provide. For every dollar staples pays you or benefit it provides, you are anywhere between 20% - 40% under compensated. That is money you are lining the executive pockets and Sycamore with. Not sure about you, but given the current climate, which is strong by the way (most companies seeking record profits), Staples is a waste of your career.

Look at all the massive layoffs in the news everyday. Staples’ time will come again soon. It’s only a matter of time.

@1bsk+1jUDCf0a - LOL, keep dreaming. Staples is a sinking ship and will eventually lay everyone off, unfortunately. If you haven't been watching, they have been slowly laying THOUSANDS of people over the last 8/9 years and are a shell of what they used to be.

Could we all just stop with the negativity already??? There are so many companies out there that are laying off right now. Shouldn't we be thankful that we still have jobs to come to. If you hate it that much then do us all a favor and leave. Staples gives us good health insurance, decent 401k match, life insurance, short term disability, etc. Count your blessings people while there are plenty of times I am frustrated I also look at what we have. Senior Leadership may not be the best but some of the immediate supervisors are some of the nicest, most caring people around. Count your blessings and what you have. It takes all of us to make this a positive place to work
