It’s a ghost town in my store. There are absolutely no customers.

Actually the refurbs were a sign that they were grasping at straws even before COVID. They were a waste of money to a company that could not afford to do this. Apparently they reckoned they COULD afford to do this. So, 53 went from "take a look at Orland-that's how we're going to look" to "I hope to he-l we don't end up closed like Orland".
If not for lost jobs for good people, it would be funny. Ditto Schaumburg, and ditto 53 one of these days.
It doesn't take the realization of them closing stores they just remodeled no matter what to figure out "the end is nigh". This company is done for even prior to them doing that. They are closing stores, laying off associates, and buying back stock just to give them enough runway to line the pockets of upper execs before filing chapter 11 then joining Linens N Things, Sears, etc.
Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive...corporate sc-m
Isn’t the lease excuse largely a ruse for saving face.
Corporate mismanagement has utterly destroyed a multi billion dollar company.
Just another case of ki----g the goose.
“They” can go sit in their calming room and contemplate what they’ve done.
Re:Leases. What sense did it make to close Orland Park, a store they just renovated, and now Schaumburg. The only reason must be expensive leases! These were large stores. Other regional stores used to depend on them to have certain items in stock. I can only imagine what those screens look like now. These are places we used to phone to hold items for customers . Then we were told to stop phoning them and go beyond. That way customers could get the wrong item {usually shipped from another store anyway} after a wait but 53 would get credit for the sale and make mgmt look better. This logic destroyed the place. We had people at 53 that would not even look in back to find something, but they got their service awards for Beyonds.
When a rumor appears that they are more interested in closing very expensive leases NO MATTER the amount of money that store makes (I know it doesn’t make sense to close one of your most profitable stores!!)
Again Just a rumor but if this IS true it means the end is nigh. You cannot run a company on dead stores just because the rent is cheaper!!
A sign that your store is next to close. Hopefully the lease isn’t up. The company is eventually going to file for bankruptcy. I am sure they are going to use foot traffic, sales and lease exp during this holiday weekend to decide what stores to close next. Good luck to everyone!
