How long

How long can Macys have so many poorly run , dirty, messy stores and continue to make money? Incompetent, ignorant , ineffective and selfish store line and regional leaders, lack of training for new hires, lack of selling and support staff, no selling floor standards …..all of this equals a bad customer experience. Only lack of competition keeps Macys going. For a company that once talked about the importance of the customer experience and the necessity of keeping everything in the store environment “brand right”…….that is long , long gone. Macys is a company that no longer runs a chain of stores it can be proud of…guess they don’t care. Macys has trained customers to hold their noses and shop in a mess without service. They don’t like it but they keep shopping. That’s the magic of Macys.

I have a friend who used to work in Corporate… traveled her region constantly. Hated it and left, said it was because of Macy’s that she’d never work retail again. She started her own business and now successfully works for herself. The one thing she told me was that she felt was so wrong was that no matter what, if the company went flat, didn’t meet sales expectations or just plain ol’ busted that they as executives were GUARANTEED a bonus! I doubt if things have changed if any since she left the company.

I agree. These stupid planned visits don’t show the true reality of the stores. They don’t learn anything this way. The only reason these stores look great is because they have an army of capable hands from around their market to help them pull the stores together at the expense of their own stores, in which they have their own messes to clean up and are neglecting to promote and protect the dog and pony show. It’s absurd! This culture of helping stores get “visit ready” really needs to stop.

Please note that the board of directors and top management are paper numbers people. They operate for their bonuses based on cooking the profit books. Your hard work means nothing but million dollar bonuses for themselves. They have cut payroll to show proof of profit. This profit scheme will catch up to Macys but to those in top leadership the future of Macys means nothing to them. Geoff is of retirement age…when he retires the house of cards falls. The talent drain this company has endured is just devastating. It’s heartbreaking!

The current leadership are not as concerned with store appearance unless it’s a flagship or Bloomingdale’s site. There needs to be more surprise visits to expose the mess in a lot of these stores and actually get cleanup done. Macys will only benefit for so long from lack of competition.
