Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

Why doesn't this company take mental health seriously?

A lot of people are struggling here and there is no support. Just grind, grind, grind, company, company, company. Suck it up. Two colleagues in my BU (good performers) are on performance improvement plans with deadlines in December and knowing this dump they will be laid off before Christmas.

Divorces, breakups, family strain, substance abuse issues. For what?

When colleagues are working 60+ hours per week I just automatically assume there are problems at home with a spouse and kids. So far i'm 3/4 in separation/divorce predictions.

Or they have bought in to the lie that putting in additional hours will move them up the food chain only to realize they're now expected to work 80++ per week. Funny stuff.

The company didn't do that out of the goodness of their heart (obviously) .. Pembina had their premiums with Manulife skyrocket after people were taking disability leave. I am sure Pembinas arm had to be twisted to do the right thing here and increase the mental health amount. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Pembina also has a terrible reputation with the local Manulife case managers as well from what I have heard. Regressive culture that operates in bad faith and is bizarrely tolerated/celebrated by staff. Eventually something will break. The comment in the OP about negative affects on relationships and health issues is common here. Company first. Always.

Check your benefits, there are lots of mental health supports. But you need to choose to use them. The peanut gallery was crying when massages and chiropractic coverage was cut. But the phychology coverage was upped to 5k per year which is huge, for the exact reasons you stated.

Manulife and Pembina both know it's cheaper to provide mental health assistance and have you stay working than have everyone off on "stress leave" taking disability.

Now that I've sided with the company, cue the haters....
