We don't need take this behavior. We delivered strong results, but the young employees who don't contribute get all the rewards and job security. This is just wrong. If we don't stand up to them, more employees will suffer this fate. All the leaders that are making these decisions are getting 6-12 months notice vs our 2 months, so they have no empathy and don't care about the impact they are having. I'm will have to pull my kids out of college if I don't get a job soon. Nobody is hiring so it's very scary and depressing.

your frustration and disappointment wont be resolved by blaming younger engineers who do contribute. By your post, you were once a young engineer working with older engineers. Did you blame yourself when they were released as this industry consolidated, sold itself, and contracted.
"the young employees who don't contribute ": I would call this age discrimination. I hope your kids in College do not face such a view from employees like yourself.
