Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

A quick question

Have you ever had a worse job experience than the one at UP? I don't think I will ever be able to adapt to this workplace. It was a big mistake for me to apply here.

If you aren’t happy; quit. Nobody is forcing you to stay. The Industry sucks right now, but you work here voluntarily.

Worse day is when you need to go number 2 and your engineer has his bags blocking the door. You finally make it out the back Locomotive door and you let out a fa-t you shouldn’t have trusted.

depends on what you mean by worse job experience. i have had many experiences that could be considered worse i ain’t been shot at or had to put my life on the line in such a direct fashion as when i was deployed and went out on a missions in iraq but i also don’t get the camaraderie that comes with that. but that being said there is the fact that i like my job and i like most of the people i work with and we all hate the company that we work for. i really wish i could answer your question but it’s all subjective and only you can really answer that question this job for all it’s downfalls (and there are more than enough for me suggest not seeking employment here)it allows me to work with people i like and support my family. the reality is this, the railroad sucks but only you can say if it’s the suck is worth it

No I think the last commenter explained it perfectly. Railroading is not for everyone. If you're commenting here and asking if anyone has had a worse experience with a job, then you've already lost the battle. It's probably best for you to cut your losses and leave. I don't like giving people advice about quitting any job, but this job is not what it once was. Retirement is slowly becoming an unrealistic thought for many. If there's anyone thinking about applying at any class 1, then you better think really damn hard about it before applying.

We’ll go find a real job then. Gotta be tough to railroad you either got it or ya don’t. It’s an awful job not for most folks but it does pay the bills at a cost to your health mentality and physically. I been doing it a long time, wouldn’t recommend it to anyone and just trying to make it to retirement in 4 years. If I could do it over I would have taken a different path in life. Not trying to be rude but F railroading the way it is nowadays. I don’t blame the new guys for quitting I wish I didn’t have so much time invested cuz this is no way to live.
