Until recently, getting a tech job at one of the FAANG companies was the dream of the majority of software engineers and tech folks in general. With the latest layoffs and the announcement of more to come, I doubt that'll still be true. Knowing that people are getting cut in thousands is a sobering prospect. I know I'm looking at jobs at smaller companies before the next round. It's a shame, but the FAANG dream is dead.

Work at a smaller company and you'll see that the engineers are more talented and hard working than FAANG engineers. Furthermore, you are more likely to work on something that actually makes the company money, not just make money off the work that was done by people 10 years ago. These round of layoffs have further shown that working at FAANGs isn't anything special. The FAANGs need Tiktok PMs to make work appear glamorous there, but that will change as well.
Just stop. This is a bump in the road. The US economy always recovers and FAANG will, too. Please stop with the fatalist views. You really think smaller companies won't be making cuts around this time?
