The manager is expected to encourage just enough competition to enable the entire team to grow. Instead, I have a manager who is preoccupied with fostering unhealthy workplace competition for reasons known only to him. Everyone is tacitly expected to outperform their colleague. There is no place for collaboration and working as a team. It's become too frustrating and I think that's how most bosses manage here. I wish I was wrong.
