Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

This is going from bed to worse

People work hard to get where they are just to be used up, walked over, and finally dismissed like they never existed. This company has lost its core values, forgotten why it exists, and will be in endless “transition” until it disappears. There's no point in staying here any longer.

Of course GF treats labor like a commodity. All employers do. It’s the one thing working stiffs like us have of value that we can sell to survive. It’s a twisted system. I commented publicly on whatever GF’s internal social media platform is regarding a statement reiterating what TC said in his video address. I went full co---e on them 😂. I pointed out that not all of us are naïve to the fact that we’re paid a tiny fraction of the capital our labor generates and it’s US who have made that company what it is and it was US with our labor, and tax money, who keep that business alive. I had been thinking of talking to people about unionizing a long time before things slowed down. I didn’t know how people would respond to it. I’m relatively new so I didn’t think I could sway people or convince them unionizing would be a good idea. I kind of want to try now. It’s late in the game but better late than never and remember that it is our RIGHT to organize among ourselves and it’s illegal to fire someone for exercising that right!

Core value? What constitutes core value is merely a "flavor of the month" way of making rash decision reflected by whatever nonsense PB farts out at DOM.

Oh, we need to push wafers out of the fab as quick as possible because Ops cry foul at DOM? Bring the tool up even if they are missing quals, and release the wafer holds even if they are OOS in some way. ThE wAFeRs Nedd tO M0vE!1!!!111!!

Oh, we just scrapped half a dozen wafers after some poor sap got lynched at DOM on a one-pager? Have a stand-down that impedes your ability to do basic work. Every change in flight gets fuxked with 3 extra layers of meetings and approvals even if it delays any "oh-so-important" cost saving project by weeks. Also, It's somehow "inadequate spec" even if it is common sense.

@OP It is naïve to think GF would behave different than most other corporations. One should always assume corporations will do whatever is in their perceived best interest. I would say GF has not done much to prove this wrong except generous parental leave. Everything else is standard in my experience.

That said, if GF treats labor as a commodity then the labor (we) need to keep that in mind. You should always be looking for the best opportunity based on what is most important to you.

I also agree with @cbc. Take "Quality first". How many tools are brought up prematurely because there are WIP bubbles and people are screaming about it?

I would argue it never had core values. Ever. It got good at pretending and faking it did and tricking the general employee into believing it did while all along it was just using and abusing them. And that makes it so much worse. I would have more respect if they were just straight up honest about things instead of masquerading around these fake bullsh-t policies (compass/year end reviews, etc.) and agendas they all want us to buy into.
