Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

Manager says…

That my team is not going away and that we will survive the next wave.

This is awful news because I was waiting on a severance package.

My manager straight out told me last week to "STFU" and pretend to look busy. Oh, don't forget to swipe, grab lunch, and head home.

Managers dont have visibility on layoffs. They never had and likely never will. In my 13 year career at Citrix, I was close to some of them... they said nothing was going to happen and then they themselves got layoff. Same goes for Directors. Two directors in my area got layoff about 3 weeks ago and the entire team was move to another area with a new person that got promoted to director. These two directors were also saying "Everything is fine, we wont be affected".

The only thing a manager can do to protect you, is to put a good scoring for you. All managers have to score or create a top to bottom list of employees. Then the higher ups use that to determinate who stays and who goes. But I rarely see low performance employees get layoff... I dont know what formula they use... my guess is salary is on the top of the list.

The manager says the team is safe, but the manager doesn't really know if HE is safe, and for how long. You could survive the first cut and then be told that you are on a "transition" plan - and you'll lose your job in January or February.

You have to figure out if your team fits into the Krause vision of how things are going to work.

My manager told me the same thing last year. A month later my position was cut. Managers aren't involved in the process of deciding who gets laid off. Unless your manager is a VP or higher, that decision is far above his/her pay grade. In my case, my manager found out I along with other members of my team had been laid off when we got the HR email and asked about it.

Well there's always the next wave. Or the next. Or the next. Eventually they'll come around to you. So take heart!

Citrix isn't/wasn't an open source project relying on donations from users. I left Citrix at the beginning of the year so I have zero skin in the game at this point, but if you don't think the purpose of working at Citrix is to make money by helping Citrix make money, you're in the wrong job.

You can REALLY tell by the people who post here just who is a POS money-grubbing brown-nosing as----e. Yeah, Krause and Vista rule! They're the best! MONEY MONEY MONEY!

So no other software companies are raising prices on new releases? Remember, Citrix primarily sells subscriptions these days, and multi-year ones are the norm. Customers have paid the same price for the last few years, so a bump on the latest TTU would be normal.

Again, what businesses aren't raising prices, and why in the world do you think Citrix isn't taking inflation into account?

You can really tell who posts here by their complete cluelessness about how businesses are run. The VCs didn't pay $16.5 billion just to burn it like play money. They're in it to maximize profit, and that means keeping as many customers as happy as they can be for as long as they can be. Anyone with a business undergrad degree knows that you don't make a buck today at the expense of losing 10 bucks next year. That's just lunacy.

This isn't like buying milk at the supermarket where you have no choice. Citrix raising prices will make some customers think hard about moving to another product. They aren't raising prices because of inflation! They are raising prices because Krause wants to milk as much money as possible from the existing customer base. If some of them decide to cancel, he doesn't care. It's a great CEO who literally does not care about his customers.

What is the up with the constant comments about Citrix raising prices? Is that some evil thing in a year+ with 8-9% inflation in the US and more in a lot of other countries? Why would anyone at Citrix have an issue with raising prices, especially since many customers have benefited greatly from the last year and some of their 3-year contracts?

Why wait for severance? The market isn't that bad unless you're applying for the big FAANG companies and from what I heard, it isn't worth hanging around for it if that is the goal.

What team is that? Are you part of the team that's raising prices for customers?

You don't have any choice now. You either stay and make the best of it, or you start looking for another job.
