Mall of Georgia Manager stabbed during robbery in August fired by Macy’s

A manager who was nearly fatally stabbed but survived protecting the clerk at the jewelry counter at Macy’s Mall of Georgia near Atlanta was fired, the robber came into the store with a kn--e and hammer and started smashing glass cases, Macy’s should be ashamed of itself! This is not fair, and the manager worked for Macy’s for over 20 years. Share and post online to Facebook and start at petition to get him rehired or another job!

so much for work place safety, don't fall off a ladder, but we don't care if someone stabs or shoots you. there is no protection for our employes, and as far as the manager goes he did what good men will do he tried to protect his staff

All the more reason not to get involved.

Do you know that many Macy's stores don't even have a loss prevention presence in the building? Most of the stores that were once Neighborhood locations run without anyone in the building to stop shoplifters. The shoplifters know it and take advantage every day. So much theft and an environment that lends itself to increasing incidents and elevated and more aggressive theft and robbery. Macy's fails to invest in protecting their inventory or providing a safe shopping/work environment and when someone like this manager makes a mistake in a heated moment, chooses to take action and is injured in the process, he is terminated.

These news stories happen all the time.
Each time any associate truly attempts to stop a robbery or theft etc. etc. they will get terminated. Most retailers have at least one of these types of cases a year. Associates chase a shoplifter, get involved with something at an entry (i.e. purse/bag snatched) and so on. The policy is straight across the board with organizations. You will get terminated. What do you believe the policy's are at other companies? Even at your local Subway. DO NOT FIGHT BACK.

Almost all AP/LP staff in retail will not chase any longer period. If any we-pon of any kind is presented or even a gesture you will disengage. Or be terminated.

Before you all slam this post or others on here think about it. What are the general instructions from LEO's on robbery's? LET THEM HAVE IT. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. REMOVE YOURSELF when possible.

Macy*s as a ton of issues. This isn't one of them.

Sounds like the CEO could care less about his employees.

You are taught to never be a hero. It’s just merchandise. It’s more important than your life. Do not intervene as the thief/mu-----r could sue Macy’s.

Where did you hear that they were protecting someone? No other colleagues were around, they scattered before the suspect even made it to the caselines.
To the one that asked where Loss Prevention was at the time, the manager intervened 30 seconds after the suspect reached the caselines.
Let's get the facts right before we go on a crusade.

This is ridiculous I would have done the same thing to help protect the Associate. Need to use some common sense as AP was not involved or in the case of some stores no one staffed at the time. Hopefully the Manager gets justice against cowardly Macys

I saw it on the News supposedly the manager violated a company policy. I'm guessing if you witness a crime at the store don't get involve. Especially if you are on the clock or working, because you might get fired. But there's one thing that they don't mention, the Loss Prevention was nowhere to be found. How come Loss Prevention don't get involve, I think they already know that it's against company policy. I just don't get it, it's human nature to try to help a fellow co worker if there's a crime happening in the store.
