Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Don't look at your teammates as competition

This is not between you and other people on your team. This round will see whole teams wiped out. I see people fighting amongst each other about who is more deserving to stay when there is no need for it. This is not about people but projects and their profitability. It's as simple as that.

It is interesting the OP mentioned that "your teammates are not the competition", but it is a culture championed by AWS (at least during interview) that you have to out-perform 50% of the teams (the bar raiser) and also you have to single out YOUR contributions vs the team contributions. It is a mindset built by AWS to compete within the team

What you're describing not to do is what the LPs promote. The culture in Amazon is toxic and servile, all the way below the CEO down to the warehouse workers.

Even though I've only been working here for a little over a year, I already have the impression that I'm not contributing as much as the people who have been here for longer.

As a result of this, I have made the decision to resign my position before I am overlooked for a promotion and pipped.
