Honestly, the layoff surprised me because I thought that great performance still has some value and that it is at least a small guarantee that someone's job is more secure. What a mistake!

If you are 50+ yrs old and there were new hires recently on your team, check with a lawyer if you were laid off before signing your severance.
Weren’t we just celebrating the 175+ new graduates hired in India a few weeks ago. Makes perfect sense now.

Not only outsourcing to India but also Mexico now. If your team is slowly being replaced by either of these, be careful if you still care about a job
Lure in strong talent for a higher price, have them work on modern solutions, lay them off, then implement similar solutions by an Indian team for fraction of the price. If you ever saw one of the company wide meetings, it becomes clear that the company diversifies far outside the US. All of the ethics training they give are a safety net to outsource most of their engineering.

Some of the best people I have worked with are gone! I used to report to one of them and have learnt so much from him its shocking that he was picked. Now I really question the logic behind these decisions and am more fearful.
