Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

What a joke

I would return only if I was extremely desperate. Does anyone have any idea how many employees are being asked to return because they were laid off by mistake? I am even more interested in how many of them agreed to return here and under what conditions?

As a leader, I probably would've terminated you immediately. You technically still work for Twitter during this initial notice period, though your work duties were mistakenly changed. Trying to renegotiate compensation as part of the work duty realignment would not have been viewed favorably. Everyone is replaceable, as you children will come to realize.

I am a mobile developer that was asked to return. I re-negotiated my conditions for return. First, a guaranteed 10 months severance package, that includes the 2 month notification where I remain on salary, Second, I will be laid off in 12 months on my return. They agreed and I returned. Make sure you negotiate up. Certain skillsets and or knowledge base is critical for for Twitter, and they are realize that now.

As an Oracle employee, the company is a disaster right now.. Every little thing is hush hush and smoke & mirrors. You are correct the tech industry is no longer in an ebb and flow state. It’s basically sinking. My heart hurts for people being let go. I worry over people mental health and not being able to pay bills. We all need to eat and have a roof over our heads. The tech industry is scary currently. I wish you all good health..

There are many jobs out there and companies that would completely understand why you are leaving. I would never go back - it would be like being dumped then being told 'oh yeah - I changed my mind'.....Have fun as a free person - free from the Twitter crash that is about to happen...

I agree with the earlier comment that you can't compare layoffs at Twitter to layoffs at other companies like Oracle; Oracle only does a Twitter style bloodbath-layoff after they acquire another company and need to clean it up, otherwise, layoffs are used as a way to manage the business and the workforce on a regular basis, trimming underperformers and getting rid of poorly performing segments of the business.

Return for the pay and benefits and then start looking for your next job.

Give it time. I doubt that you will find a comparable job now.

Don’t compare Oracle, they layoff ever year. It’s part of the system to cut the bottom 10% of under achievers, and the BMW, b*tching, moaning, complaining.
Should add a W in there for wingers

Depends, are you happy to work for a company that lost $1b in 2020 and $250m in 2021 with Twitter losing $4m daily ?

I personally got laid off and it gave me a good reason to finally change because personally, I was quite anxious when I listened to the earning calls.

If you feel safe to work for a company that isn't actually making any profit and you earn $250k+ a year then by all means - stay.
