Thread regarding VMware layoffs

No more high expectations

Before the acquisition was announced, our manager had very unrealistic expectations, but now he expects almost nothing. Is it like that for you too?

Although it's never been more depressing to work here (for many reasons) for the time being I enjoy slow workdays, which are now much more frequent than before.

My manager is incredible - she understands the lack of motivation due to all the ridiculous stuff happening. That said, the org keeps pushing more busy work and pointless projects and trainings.

Pat knew what was coming. This may or may not be why he left but he certainly participated in the deception. Right there with the rest of the crew. The timing is more than a coincidence.

+1 on micromanagement

Lying about doing work. Traveling to look busy. Meeting just to meet.

Management’s job is to keep people in the boat until no longer needed. Severance isn’t worth the headache that comes with staying to only look later.

I intend to accept the offer I have and leave this house of horrors. This isn’t normal.

Haven't had a boss in two months. I'm operating independently, lmao. Good times.

Also being micromanaged more - Mgrs. trying to make their teams look more valuable. Complete hiring freeze for my group as well as of last week.

"Pat knew what was coming and he left."

That's not a great assessment. Pat had an amazing opportunity that he would've been foolish to pass up. You're suggesting he was running from VMW instead.

I don't think he left because of the state of things. I think the state of things is because he left. His departure opened the door for Broadcom to buy us out.

I am now being micromanaged far more than ever before. I am seeing BU's slow down and seeing freezes for hiring for most BU's outside of Tanzu which is interesting.

I encourage everyone to look at other offers. Pat knew what was coming and he left. Don’t be that guy who they give the boot to. Especially if you are over 45 no matter how good you are. Get out and get a new start. Give yourself a Merry Christmas. As green as you think this company is- the vast majority are getting coal in their stockings. What good is severance if you can’t find a good job? Tech is a he-l ho-e right now.
