Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

New Software to be used

Love how the CEO made technology decisions... garbage technology decisions. Leave tech decisions about which software we should be using to people who understand tech. I can't wait for this to turn out just like Wrike and Slack - with a huge mandatory company push onto the new technologies, only to find out that one shoe does not fit all.

Bring on Oracle, G suite, and whatever other cr-p we're moving to.

Citrix Engineering has been on Slack forever for chat and never left. IT only pushed non engineering to Teams only for meetings and chat.

FYI G -Suite includes corporate email domain. (Not gmail, thats for personal).

The reason we he wants to move to it is because its SaaS, and easy to adjust after they make cuts in headcount.

IT announced that Slack is going to be used. TIBCO was already using it.

"Slack is gone too"

This isn't true for Engineering and part of IT. Engineering is all-in on Slack and never left. The previous IT VP made a premature announcement that the entire company was going to standardize on Teams without consulting Engineering and so it never truly happened. We use Teams for meetings and Slack for messaging, communities, etc

Citrix has been on Office 365 for 3-4 years, and GoToMeeting was eliminated 2 years ago or so. Slack is gone too, so it's all Microsoft at the moment.

Folks, please join the modern world. If we are still running on-prem servers, that's the ice age!

Zoom is a far better solution than GotoMeeting- believe me, I am on it 4-6 hours a day and have not had a single hiccup, unlike GTM or Teams.

And G-Suite- yes, its a change, but again, many large companies use it and people love it.

The broader message here is also a decoupling from Microsoft. I wonder what else is lying under that move....

Lol gmail.... When I see that with any "company" I consider them to be a mom & pop amateur company. Seems like my assessment remains correct.

From a cost-cutting perspective, this makes sense. There won't be enough remaining Citrix IT people to manage legacy on-prem infrastructure, so the shift to SaaS subscriptions enables the PE owners to provide short-term IT solutions (pending the sale of the remaining assets). This is just a temporary fix, while they find a buyer for each business unit. Once that's done, then they can easily cancel these SaaS apps.

Don’t forget zoom….. cause that’s so secure. LMAO - Don’t worry, it’s Q4, we are all leaving. They can “easily replace” us all. Yes, that’s been said. We are just technology people - all of us - engineering, support, dev, sales, channel, operations, marketing - all “easily replaced” with anyone because top leading technology is soooooo easy. Hire cheap collage grads and 3rd world support. That always turns out so well. Meanwhile, we’ll all be working for our competitors and we know all the partners and customers. So don’t worry about letting us know if we “have a job by November”.
