Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Lessons learned the hard way

As I look back on my career here I have come to realize that when times get tough, the tough turkey do get going. When times are bad, the good ones leave because they don’t have to suffer. Eventually they are followed by people who thought they could make a change, but they were buried because too many of the good ones left. Those that are left are either bad or hostages.

Hey Nic, you talked me into filing bankruptcy because you knew I would get run off and you would blame me and get my job. You are one sorry fothermucker!

I have also learned in the hardest possible way that when you lose your job, all your so-called friends vanish in a snap of finger, so do not rely on them and do not indulge on a false sense of protection.
You absolutely need to secure your next job before the upcoming layoff (banks’ divestiture), which means you are already late....

You nailed it. There are a lot of hostages here hoping for a severance. OKC is not a great job market for many of the support staff and even worse for the energy sector. When CHK sales there are plenty of hostages that are going to be even in a worse spot as they try to sell their home and move somewhere else for a job right along with hundreds of others. I hope you kept those relationships up with all the good ones that have already left and secured good jobs elsewhere.
