Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

It couldn't be any worse

I am too exhausted and too disappointed. I wear multiple hats and feel miserable while watching some favored pretenders do nothing and still get paid more than me. By the way, the manager expects me to double my efforts. Sounds like a bad joke.I hope to get a new job soon. It's so bad here that I think it can't get any worse. Or can it?

Macys last concern is for their employees. Town hall meetings are just to make the investors feel good. Every decision that’s made is nothing that is actually getting us on track. Them treating this company as a revolving door speaks volumes. We can’t keep store managers, dept managers, district or even call center manager / directors. Phone systems don’t work. Systems are so old and dated they crash daily. Then their brave idea is to remove their great sales people from commission sales in the stores and their call centers. They removed specialists from everywhere. Send more stuff overseas. Hire new people in at more money with no experience as a slap in the face to their loyal employees just to make the environment for everyone more tense. So while people can’t pay their rent they have another town hall… dangling a carrot saying how tomorrow once again will be a better day than yesterday…. We all fall for it again.

“We are an organization that says the right things, we talk about the well-being of our people , we support social goals and our community. Unfortunately, the needs of our business and the decisions we are making don't align with our stated vision and it's only a matter of time before these two realities come crashing together.”

This is most real thing I have read on in here in months. This is the reason after many years and most of my career spent here I am leaving. The way we are managing our people and business alike is sickening.
Their decisions make zero sense and we are choking on swimwear and Karen Scott tops that the company is still hanging onto and not just marking to Penny or taking to a drastic markdown to get rid of. The money is lost the profit gone, clean the stores up so we can have a productive holiday. But wait can’t get holiday goods to the floor or do sets because we have $8.99 first mark karen Scott tops filling up an entire pad. Then it’s your fault sets are not getting done and why are you behind in workload

Can’t even put out a truck because no space to put it out. Also can’t put it in stockroom cause those are filled up too.

And people are jumping off the titanic daily

Disastrous situation in most stores…..

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next five years as the regional mom's and dad who run the stores organization as the adults in the room compared to their boss, who looks like one of their kids on the Monday calls, all retire. Turnover at the Senior Director level among the highly rated and ranked Store Managers is at an all time high.

In the past six or so months, every highly ranked store manager in our division's four largest stores in the NW have resigned and found positions at companies with better opportunities and more realistic expectations. All of these executives were considered bench for future DVP and potential RDOS roles and they left much to the seeming surprise of senior leadership.

We keep rolling out more and more unrealistic expectations to stores. People who want to be successful and grow with company have two choices, either work themselves and their team to exhaustion and fail slower than others, or kiss so much backside that the failures in their stores are overlooked and resources are pulled in to prep them before visits to keep the fallacy of their success alive.

We are an organization that says the right things, we talk about the well-being of our people , we support social goals and our community. Unfortunately, the needs of our business and the decisions we are making don't align with our stated vision and it's only a matter of time before these two realities come crashing together.

Age discrimination is a good topic to discuss as it happens more than people think. On a personal note it happened to my mother several years ago so it’s a sore subject. When people say that the over 50 and 60 crowd can’t perform a job that’s nonsense and most of the time flat out wrong. Every individual is different. I worked with a lady in her early 70s who worked circles around the younger guys in Receiving.

Macys is not a long term solution for anyone in retail. Believe me I’ve serviced IT for stores for a long time and I see how they operate and treat their people it’s not good for the most part. Especially now with less staffing and how demanding Fulfillment is. I had several Associates ask about the Tech world and jokingly say they would switch positions with me. Of course I said I’m good and no thanks as I worked in retail when I was much younger and not going back unless I’m in dire straits.

If you cannot meet nor exceed your goals, then you need to move on .Keep looking for a new job. Notice how other retailers are providing stools for cashiers to sit upon while at the registers. Those are the ones to work for... catering to the needs of the individual.

They are doing this by design.. you both are prolly older and been there longer than 5 years.. they want you out so its not being favorite to the newcomers its unload the old deck and get new useless younger crowd in.. Macys should be investigated for age discrimination as i have seen it happen over and over since 2013

Same here. I hate management especially. Management has worsened considerably these past few years. Clueless id--ts. My suggestion is to apply everywhere. I am in same boat as you and just cuz I worked here for a few years they think I have to do ALL the work. New employees and the managers favorites both do absolutely nothing and get paid more. I am waiting to hear back from a job I interviewed and they have such better benefits for employees than Macys. I sincerely wish both of us luck and as well as any other Macys long term employee who is fed up with how they are treating us and looking to leave.
