Got an email around 9:00AM for a meeting the same day at 11:30AM with the subject line "HR Connect" with my Practice Lead (NA Invent) and an HR Associate Director. No early notice, no nothing. Up to the previous Friday everything was peaches and cream with no indication of the upcoming hit. Came out of a billable role just a few days back.
Two years at the company. ARVE blamed for the "financial hardship" that forced them to initiate the round of layoffs (other people impacted as well). Nothing supposedly related to performance, and I might even be called back in the future when things improve. Just imagine my shocked face when the HR lady was going through all of that. 6 weeks of severance and that was it. Nothing else, and when I say nothing, it's nothing. Well, they were generous enough to keep my health, dental, and vision insurance active until October 31st...
What else can I say. Lack of elegance and professionalism. I have an old peer that was laid off from Accenture recently (she was actually less than a year there) and she got the same 6 weeks, plus a 6-month lump sum to cover her health insurance transition, 6-month professional assistance to help with her career transition, and even $700 to buy a laptop or spend on whatever she wanted. That was way much better than what I got over here. Anyway, if you are evaluating job offers from Capgemini, consider this a potential read flag for a not-that-distant future. Not all big consulting firms behave the same during turmoils. At least I can say without any second thoughts... Lesson learned.
