Rto

I know that lately there’s been a lot of negative comments about RTO. But I was wondering is anyone excited to return to the office? I personally missed interacting with my fellow peers!

I can (and have) gone out to lunch with my peers any time I want even when the offices were closed. So, no benefit there.

Unlike others, I am not going to bash you for wanting to go into the office. If that is your happy place, go for it. To me, the office is a colossal waste of time. I have worked for a few tech companies, in retail corporate offices, and financial companies over the years. I find that more time is wasted in the office with "water cooler" talk, 2 hour lunches and meetings all day. Sure, it is fun. I enjoyed all of that. But I am personally finding that I am getting a lot more meaningful work done at home than I ever did in the office.

At home, I grab a bite and come back to my desk. I don't stand around chatting at other people's cubes about the weekend and whatever else. That all happens in Teams now and if I want to ignore it till I have a free moment to chat, I can. If I want to work an extra hour at night, I do it because I don't have to worry about a long commute home. If I want to sign in on a Saturday, I do. I WON'T be doing that anymore being in an office 5 days a week. If they want me chained to a desk, I will do my job and go home and when I get home, that is MY time. So TK saying we can sign on after dinner? Yeah, that ain't happening pal!

If I am commuting. I am starting later and leaving earlier due to traffic. Driving over an hour each way and being stuck in a vehicle on a highway is not productive time spent. It is a waste of time and company money to have me sitting in a car 2+ hours on a daily basis.

The company has seen the metrics. They have seen people's productivity. They have seen what we can do from home. No, this isn't to be productive and collaborate. This is typical old school CEO stuff that people cannot be trusted to self manage their time. Period, end of sentence.

Nope, no one really wants to interact with you that much. Sorry.

The main issue is no one has been stopping you or anyone else from interacting with your fellow peers for almost a year now.

Go into the office if you want. Go in 5 days in a row if your home sucks and you don't like spending time with your family and pets. Go spend time with your coworkers and "innovate" on a corporate supplied whiteboard.

The issue is you could have been doing that for about a year now, but for those of us who prefer to stay home and have been doing so constructively since March of 2020 are now left without a choice, other then to accept a half baked BS argument about how it's "for out own good", or quit.

So I would wager for most people on this particular message board, no... no one is looking forward to going in 5 days a week to interact with their fellow peers...
