Sorry to bump this, but I have a relevant comment to make. I keep seeing posts about Target, Wally, Aussie Kmarts, Wesfarmers, etc., etc., etc., "taking over" such and such Sears or Kmart from Lampert.
Not only is this nonsense getting old, it has NEVER HAPPENED. I have heard people writing this for Years, for example, about the Guam store. Never in the history of Transformco has any other retailer "taken over" an existing Sears store. Now, of course, a store might be sold to a liquidator and closed, and then another company comes into that property, but that is NOT another chain "taking over" a Sears. That is simply someone else leasing a now-vacant property that was once leased by Sears.
TL/DR: No other company ever takes over an existing Sears. Only 2 things can happen to an existing Sears.
- He keeps it open.
- He closes the store, after which the property is vacant until some other entity might or might not lease that place.
- But no other chain has ever "taken over" an existing Sears or Kmart, without it having been closed and vacated first.
In other words, if someone is Renting a car, I don't "take over" that car when he is going 70 MPH down the highway. I wait until he returns the car to the Rental agency, then I might or might not Rent the car, down the line, at my leisure, if and when I want to. But I'm not "taking over" an existing Rental, while the car is still moving. Same here. Nobody has (in the history of Lampert) ever "taken over" a running store.
